Guided by expert tutors from Britain’s oldest embroidery atelier\, you’ll learn how to recreate a lead costume piece worn by Miranda Richardson in Young Victoria. \n  \nThe embroidery focuses on the stunning silver goldwork that decorated the front of the stomacher—a key feature of the bodice. The motifs are floral\, delicate and full of the refinement you’d expect from Victorian court dress. \n  \nThroughout the course\, you’ll be using traditional techniques and original materials\, just as they were used in the making of the film costume. From design transfer to working with real metal threads\, this is a chance to immerse yourself in the world of period costume and learn the techniques that bring historical garments to life on screen. Whether you’re a costume maker\, a keen embroiderer or just someone with a love of historical fashion\, this course offers a rare opportunity to explore the art of embellishment at its most regal. \nThis immersive course (with a limited number of places) offers a rare opportunity to master traditional couture beading techniques and apply them to your own timeless creations\, evoking the allure and refinement of a bygone time. \n  \nIt also includes an exclusive Tour of Angels Costumes.   A one-of-a-kind experience\, the Behind the Seams Tour showcases Angels extensive costume collection\, which spans 8 miles worth of rails\, and over 1 million items.   Participants will also receive a copy of Angels book Behind The Seams. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Angels Costumes\nEstablished in 1840\, Angels is the world’s largest and longest-established supplier of costumes and accessories for TV\, film and theatre that has earnt industry recognition worldwide.  Providing costumes from stock\, as well as those manufactured in its Ladies Making and Men’s Tailoring workrooms\, It has supplied costumes to many BAFTA and Academy Award winning films for best costume design including the most recent winner ‘Poor Things’. \nAbout Hand & Lock\nHand & Lock are London’s premier embroidery house and oldest embellishment atelier in Britain\, providing embellishment services to the Royal Family\, top European design houses\, the military\, Savile Row and members of the public. Founded in 1767\, they have over 250 years’ experience embellishing\, embroidering and monogramming. \nEmbroidery Tutor:\nFreya Stanford Freya Stanford grew up stitching\, learning from her mum at a young age\, she has always had a passion for the art. In 2023 she graduated from the Royal School of Needlework with a First Class Honour degree in Hand Embroidery where she learned skills including Goldwork\, Tambour Beading and Silk Shading embroidery amongst many more. Freya has had the privilege of working for fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen and Erdem as well as working on costumes for films such as Wicked. Now\, as part of the Hand & Lock team\, she is sharing her embroidery skills with the lovely Hand & Lock students. Freya has an eye for detail and loves experimenting with embroidery\, combining different techniques to create something new. Working alongside Lucy (Head of Education)\, the Hand & Lock education team strive to keep the art of embroidery alive through contemporary classes and colourful designs. \nUseful information:\n\nThe course will run from 10am to 4pm on all three days.\nYou can find us at Angels Costumes 1 Garrick Road  London NW9 6AA\nCar parking is available on site if required\nPublic Transport – Hendon Thameslink – 5 minute walk.  Hendon Central Tube Station (Northern Line) 15-20 minute walk or a 10 minute bus ride routes 83\, 183 or SL10\nLunch Arrangements – participants are advised to bring a packed lunch (microwave/fridge available on site) although there are a few café’s fairly close by.  One hour will be scheduled for lunch.\nHot drinks will be provided\nAngels & Hand & Lock will provide all the materials and tools that you need but you are welcome to bring anything that you feel comfortable using yourself.\n\n\nTerms and Conditions:\nMETHOD OF CONFIRMATION \nOnce your registration for a course has been successfully processed\, you will receive an email confirming your space\, name of the course\, course timing\, and location of class within three working days \nCANCELLATIONS REFUNDS AND TRANSFER POLICY \nAngels Costumes are generally not able to offer refunds on courses although if we are able to sell the place in a timely fashion we will do so and at our discretion will offer a refund minus a small service fee. \nAngels Costumes reserve the right to cancel a course at any time\, without incurring any additional liability to the student.
